NCLL Leadership Research Summary

NCLL is a premier think tank on leadership in the Latino community. NCLL’s groundbreaking research projects are defining Latino leadership from a cultural, community-based perspective. NCLL is producing publications and data useful for researchers, leaders and the Latino public interested in developing effective leadership programs, studying innovative applied leadership research and practice, and enhancing their own leadership knowledge and skills. Among them are a national survey on the views of the Latino public on leadership; focus groups with local Latino/a leaders across various sectors of society; structured interviews with nationally recognized Latino/a leaders. Besides its data and publication series, NCLL also offers an online Leadership Library that includes an annotated listing of leadership books and articles, leadership theories and expert opinions, as well as a leadership dictionary and relevant Latino statistics.

NCLL Research Projects

a national survey of over 3,200 randomly selected Latino/a respondents from California, Florida, Illinois, New York, and Texas. Captures data and publishes findings on public perception of Latino/a and non-Latino/a leaders, civic participation, visions for the Latino community, and issues such as barriers encountered, access to technology, language use, class identification, and religion.
54 focus groups with local leaders in 6 cities (Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, San Antonio, and Washington, D.C.) across academic, artistic, business, civic, recent immigrant, religious, women, youth, and non-minority business sectors. Captures data and publishes findings on effective leadership values, knowledge, skills, abilities and program components.
50 structured interviews with nationally recognized Latino/a leaders in the arts, academia, business, civic life, and the religious sector. Captures data and publishes findings on the priorities and pathways of established leaders, with an emphasis on their mentors, values, major contributions, lessons learned, and opportunities for the next generation of Latino leaders.
