Dear Colleague:

I would like to welcome you to The National Community for Latino Leadership, Inc.'s (NCLL) new web site. The site offers a number of online resources as well as groundbreaking research on Latino leadership. We are posting the latest opportunities, skill-building tools, and current events for emerging and established leaders, as well as a directory of key organizations serving the Latino community. Besides our leadership research reports, we will be featuring downloadable audio interviews with nationally recognized Latino leaders from the arts, business, civic, educational, political and religious sectors of our diverse community.

I have been asked, "Why research Latino leadership?" My response is that if we are to continue to develop leaders that represent the values, vision and voices of all of our community, we must inform today’s leadership models, programs and networks with a clear sense of what we expect from our leaders and ourselves. NCLL's first report, "Reflecting an American Vista: The Character and Impact of Latino Leadership", has initiated a much needed dialogue on leadership from a Latino perspective (see NCLL's Press Room). NCLL's upcoming reports to be released in September 2001 are "Latino Catholics: Presence, Participation, and Leadership in the Catholic Church" and "The Latino American Dream: High Hopes and Harsh Realities." These reports will continue to reveal the impact that the youngest and fastest growing population in the United States is having on the broader community.

NCLL believes that it is contributing to the field of leadership development by "connecting the dots" between people, programs and resources. Some argue that there is already an abundance of leadership pipelines and pathways. However, not enough is being done to connect emerging and established leaders to the timely opportunities and relevant resources necessary to confront today's challenges. NCLL is addressing this issue by promoting interactive workshops, collaborative services and useful tools that link emerging and established leaders. We invite you to join our network of leaders and organizational partners.

As an organization committed to coalition building, we are excited to learn how our work might connect to the work that you are doing. NCLL is a national forum and clearinghouse for local and national Latino leaders and leadership development programs. We look forward to exploring networking opportunities such as sharing research, program development, and event collaboration. You can e-mail us at ncll@latinoleadership.org with any questions or comments. Please link to our site and alert us to any online resources, opportunities or events that you would like us to post. Visit our web site regularly, as we will be posting key news and information on Latino leadership.

Thank you very much for visiting our new web site, and we look forward to developing a strategic relationship with you and your organization in the near future.

Sincerely,

Alfred Ramirez, President
National Community for Latino Leadership, Inc.
